Year 6a - IntoUniversity Days 2 and 3
Our children have continued their exciting journey with IntoUniversity, making the most of another action-packed and inspiring week.
Yesterday morning, pupils worked alongside representatives from Northumbria University to take part in an engaging engineering challenge. Using only file cards and paper clips, they were tasked with designing and constructing a tower capable of supporting as much weight as possible. The results were remarkable—one team even built a structure so strong that we ran out of weights to test its limits! In the afternoon, the children continued developing their “secret mission” project from Day 1, collaborating to create eye-catching and informative posters to showcase their ideas.
Today, the children visited the The Farrell Centre in Newcastle, where they explored a range of architectural styles from around the world. Inspired by what they discovered, they were challenged to design their own building tailored to a chosen animal. Their creativity truly shone through, with imaginative concepts including a museum for elephants, a bespoke home for snakes, a shopping centre for lions and even a school for sharks. Working collaboratively, the pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills as they constructed their models and confidently presented their designs to the class.
It has been a fantastic week of innovation, creativity and collaboration, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by all involved.
