Year 5/6 and Star Suite Visit the Laing and Hatton Gallery
As part of the Cultural Match Programme, the Year 5/6 class and some members of the Star Suite visited both the Laing and Hatton Gallery on the same day. The morning was spent at the Laing Art Gallery looking at forty six portraits from the National Portrait Gallery. The children chose their favourite portrait and imagined what this person liked and which occupation they had. The children then created a portrait of this person. In the afternoon, the children visited the Hatton Gallery at Newcastle University. They explored the work of Karl Schwitters and then created a collage inspired by his work. The children enjoyed the opportunity to see such diverse artwork in two fabulous local galleries.
