Year 2A - My Family History
This term, the children in Year 2A have been exploring the fascinating topic of My Family History. They have been developing their understanding of the past and learning how historians discover what life was like in different times.
We began by thinking about our school day and learning about chronology – putting events in the order they happen. The children practised using important historical vocabulary, including before, after, now, then and later.
Next, we explored family timelines, discussing the difference between the past and the present and learning how timelines help us organise important events in our lives. We then investigated family trees, discovering how they show relationships between family members and different generations.
The children also learned how historians find out about the past by using sources of information, including artefacts and other evidence. We discussed the meaning of living memory and explored how everyday life has changed over time, focusing on communication, schools and toys.
Throughout the topic, Year 2A have been encouraged to ask questions, make comparisons and use historical vocabulary to explain their ideas. They have enjoyed discovering how their own family histories connect to the past and developing their skills as young historians!
