Year 1 cricket festival 2026

Our Year 1 children had a fantastic day out at Gateshead Stadium, proudly representing our school at a cricket festival alongside other local schools. From the moment they arrived, the children showed enthusiasm, excellent behaviour and a real willingness to try their best.

Throughout the day, the children took part in a wide range of fun, team-based activities designed to develop basic cricket skills. These included throwing and catching games to improve hand–eye coordination, rolling and striking activities to practise batting skills, and simple fielding challenges that encouraged quick reactions and teamwork. Each activity was carefully planned to help the children build confidence while learning the fundamentals of the game in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

What was especially impressive was the children’s determination and positive attitude. They listened carefully to instructions, supported one another, and showed great perseverance, even when tasks were tricky. Their teamwork and sportsmanship were wonderful to see, with lots of encouragement and smiles shared throughout the festival.

The children’s hard work and resilience did not go unnoticed. They performed so well that they were awarded a Determination Certificate, recognising their effort, focus and never-give-up attitude. This was a proud moment for everyone involved.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 1 pupils for representing our school so brilliantly. The day was a great success and a memorable experience that helped build both sporting skills and confidence. Well done, Year 1! 🏏🌟
