Year 1, Spring Forest School
During our very first Forest School session of the new year, Year 1 enjoyed an exciting and highly valuable first aid workshop led by our Forest School Leader, Chris. The children approached the session with great enthusiasm and curiosity, making it a fantastic start to our Forest School learning.
Throughout the session, the children learned some basic first aid skills and discussed what to do in an emergency. Chris carefully explained how to stay calm, how to ask for help, and why it is important to know who to contact if someone is hurt or unwell. The children were particularly fascinated to see a defibrillator (defib). Chris explained, in a child-friendly way, what it is used for and why it can be so important in saving lives.
The children were also introduced to CPR. They listened carefully as Chris talked about how it helps people who are not breathing properly, and they even had a go themselves using the equipment provided. This hands-on experience helped them to understand the importance of helping others and working together in an emergency situation.
To finish the session, the children wrote down their home address to take home and put on their fridge. This important task was to help them remember vital information in case they ever need to ring 999 during an emergency at home.
The children learned so much during the session and showed excellent listening, teamwork and maturity throughout. It was a truly memorable experience for the class.
