Year 1 - 'IT Around Us'

 

This half term, Year 1 have been learning all about Information Technology (IT) in their computing lessons. They discovered that IT includes devices such as computers, laptops, and tablets, which often have screens and buttons.

The children explored how IT helps us in our daily lives. They learned that technology can be used to communicate with others, play games, watch videos, and help us do different jobs. We also looked at examples of IT we might find outside of school, such as traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, tills, card machines, and barcode scanners. The children were amazed to learn that a bar code contains special information about a product!

An important part of the topic was learning how to use IT safely. The children discussed the importance of keeping passwords private and asking permission before taking or sharing photos. We talked about how following safety rules keeps everyone safe online.

Finally, we learned about having a balanced digital diet – making sure we do activities online and offline. The children explored five ways to stay balanced: be mindful, connect, give, be active, and get creative.

Year 1 have really enjoyed discovering how IT is all around us!
