Reception Visit to the Laing Art Gallery
Reception had a wonderful visit to the Laing Art Gallery, where they explored paintings, colours and sculpture through a range of exciting hands-on activities. During a special workshop, the children discussed what artists use to paint and make marks with, learning about different tools and materials that help artists create their work. As they explored the gallery, the children took part in a fun colour eye-spy activity, carefully looking at paintings and spotting different shades and details within the artwork. They showed fantastic observation skills and curiosity as they examined the paintings closely.
The children also had the opportunity to choose their favourite paintings from around the gallery and share their ideas about why they liked them. It was lovely to hear the children talking confidently about colours, shapes and feelings in the artwork. Working together as a team, the children then created their own sculpture using objects that might be found on a beach. They showed great teamwork, imagination and creativity as they discussed their ideas and carefully arranged the materials to make their sculpture come to life.
To finish the trip, the children became artists themselves by creating their own mini art galleries. Using excellent fine motor skills, they carefully cut, stuck and arranged materials to design 3D gallery spaces for their artwork. The children were incredibly proud of their creations and thoroughly enjoyed expressing themselves through art. The visit was a fantastic experience that inspired creativity, teamwork and a deeper appreciation of art and artists.
