Reception - Fine Motor Skills
Reception have been busy developing and strengthening their fine motor skills using a range of maths equipment over the past few weeks. These activities have helped the children improve their hand strength, control, and coordination, which are all important for early writing and everyday tasks.
They have built number stacks with multilink cubes, carefully clicking the cubes together and pulling them apart to build finger strength, then matching each stack to the correct numeral. The children have also enjoyed stacking and balancing dominoes to create tall towers and domino structures, which has supported their hand–eye coordination and careful control. Some have even begun learning how to play dominoes, practising precise placement and turn-taking.
We are proud that Reception can now confidently recognise dice patterns and say the matching number, showing both their growing maths skills and improved fine motor control. Great work, Reception!
