People Who Help Us
This half term in Nursery, we have been busy learning all about People Who Help Us. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the important roles of people who help to keep us safe, healthy and happy in our community.
We began by talking about police officers and how they help to keep us safe. The children learned about their uniforms, police cars and how they help people in different situations. In our role play area, we had lots of budding police officers solving problems and helping their friends!
Next, we learned about firefighters. The children were very excited to find out how firefighters put out fires and rescue people. We talked about fire safety and what to do in an emergency. The role play area became a busy fire station, with children wearing helmets, driving fire engines and rushing to emergencies.
We also explored the important work of doctors, nurses and paramedics. The children learned how they help us when we are feeling unwell or hurt. They enjoyed using bandages, stethoscopes and medical kits in our pretend hospital, carefully looking after their patients and making them feel better.
Our learning continued with dentists, where we talked about keeping our teeth clean and healthy. The children practised brushing teeth and learned why it is important to visit the dentist regularly. We even counted teeth and sorted healthy and unhealthy foods!
We discovered how vets care for animals. The children loved pretending to treat pets in our veterinary surgery, checking heartbeats and giving lots of gentle care to the soft toy animals.
Finally, we talked about the people who help us every day in school, including teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, cleaners and lunchtime supervisors. The children recognised familiar faces and discussed how these people help us to learn, stay safe and enjoy our time at school.
Throughout the half term, we have shared many wonderful stories about people who help us, asked thoughtful questions and learned new vocabulary. The children have especially enjoyed dressing up, taking part in role play and acting out real-life experiences. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they explored these important occupations.
We are very proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been during this topic. Well done, Nursery!
