Maths in Year 1

To support the children’s transition from Reception to Year 1, our first maths topic has focused on numbers to 10. Throughout this topic, we have been working on recognising numbers, counting forwards and backwards to 10, counting from a given number within 10, and counting out sets. We've also enjoyed singing a variety of counting songs to reinforce these skills in a fun and engaging way.

In the coming weeks, we will be exploring the concept of zero, ordering numbers, and identifying one more and one less than a given number. The children have engaged in lots of practical activities to help embed their understanding of numbers to 10.  The children have particularly enjoyed using the maths area in the afternoons to practise their new skills.
