First Aid at Forest School

This week at Forest School, our Nursery children became little lifesavers as they learned all about first aid and what to do in an emergency.

The children learned that if there is a serious emergency, we need to call 999. We talked about the important people who help us, such as paramedics, firefighters and police officers, and how they work hard to keep everyone safe. The children practised saying “nine-nine-nine” clearly and confidently, and discussed when it is important to ask a grown-up to make the call.

We explored what to do if there is a fire. The children learned that we must move away from danger quickly and calmly and tell an adult straight away. During our role-play activities, they practised helping someone move to a safe space, thinking carefully about their own safety first.

The children also learned some simple ways to help someone who is hurt. They practised working in pairs to carefully support and carry an “injured” friend, making sure to move slowly and communicate with each other. We talked about being gentle, kind and calm in an emergency.

Throughout the session, the children showed fantastic listening skills, teamwork and maturity. Forest School gives us such wonderful opportunities to learn important life skills in a hands-on and meaningful way.

We are so proud of our caring and responsible Nursery children!
