Chinese New Year in the Star Suite
This week, the children in the Star Suite have been learning all about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated. At the beginning of the week, they listened to the story of the Great Race and found out that each year is named after 1 of 12 animals. 2026 is the Year of the Horse.
The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of creative activities including painting Chinese numbers, creating a Chinese restaurant, making Chinese lanterns and dancing like dragons. They have had lots of opportunities to practise their writing and mark-making skills such as writing invitations, menus and captions for pictures. Using chopsticks to pick up cubes proved to be a fun way to apply their fine motor skills!
Our Chinese banquet was the highlight of the week. Everyone sat together as a group and enjoyed tasting prawn crackers and noodles with oranges for dessert. It was a lovely way to end such a wonderful week.
