Chinese New Year 2026
This week in Nursery, we have been learning all about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated around the world, especially in China and other Asian countries. We have had such a busy and exciting time!
The children were very brave and curious when they tried prawn crackers. We talked about how people enjoy special foods during Chinese New Year celebrations. There were lots of smiles and crunchy sounds in our classroom!
We discovered that red and gold are important colours during Chinese New Year because they represent good luck and happiness. The children created beautiful paintings using red, yellow, and gold paints. Our classroom is now bright and colourful with their wonderful artwork!
One of our favourite activities was copying a traditional dragon dance. We watched how dragons move in parades and then worked together to create our own dragon movements. There was lots of teamwork, rhythm, and giggling as we swished and swayed like dragons!
We read the story of the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and learned how each animal earned its place in the calendar. The children loved finding out which animal they were born in the year of!
It has been a joyful week of learning, creativity, and exploration. We are so proud of how the children embraced new experiences and shared their ideas with each other.
