Celebrating National Poetry Day in Year 2A
To celebrate National World Poetry Day, the children in 2A enjoyed exploring the wonderful world of poetry through the poem Six Ways of Looking at a Leaf by Kate Wakeling.
Each child was given a leaf of their own to investigate. They listened carefully to the poem and followed the six different ways of looking at a leaf, encouraging them to slow down, observe closely and notice details they might normally overlook.
The children used their senses and imaginations to explore their leaves in different ways. They looked carefully at the shape, colour, lines and patterns, while also thinking creatively about what their leaf reminded them of. It was lovely to see how the same simple object could inspire so many different thoughts and ideas.
The activity encouraged the children to appreciate nature from different perspectives and showed them that poetry can help us see ordinary things in extraordinary ways.
2A thoroughly enjoyed becoming poets and observers. Their curiosity, creativity and thoughtful responses made our World Poetry Day celebration a wonderful experience!
