The children had lots of fun participating in various activities in and out of school. The day started with the children arriving at school dressed as story characters from well known children's authors. Prizes were awarded to the best costumes in Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2. Throughout the day, children were involved in book related activities. They had to design a new front cover for a brand new children's book and write a blurb. The winners were: Emma Dickson in Year 2, Casey Bencito in Year 4 and Rhys Prudhoe in Year 5. Activities were also organised out of school. For Years 1 and 2 this involved a trip to Waterstones where they used their £1 vouchers to purchase new books. Year 3 visited the fabulous St Mary's Heritage Centre where they were made puppets to retell Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox. Year 4 went on a Beast Quest mission to Pelaw Library where they had lots of fun.

Today in English, Year 6 have been pitching their product ideas to their very own set of Dragons. All week they have been writing a persuasive piece to convince the panel to 'make an offer' for their chocolate teapot. This morning they used their own list of reasons to try to convince the team of Dragons. Some pitches received generous offers whilst others were given feedback about how to improve their ideas.
The pupils and teacher (Mrs Wallace) all had a really enjoyable time during the role play activity.

As the entry point to the 'Carnival of Animals' topic, the Key Stage One children got to meet some real life pets. Three different animals visited our school: a rabbit, two guide dog and two turtles.
The children had to ask the visitors questions which would help them find out about how to take care of a pet.

Mr Malik, the club organiser, decided that he would judge the entries and the one which gave the most effective description would be purchased and eaten in our last session before half term.

Wardley hosted created its very own car showroom, selling various vehicles of all shapes and sizes. The Key Stage One children have been designing and making vehicles in their DT lessons. Working in pairs, the children were given a specific design brief. The car had to be able to:
*Move freely
*Seat more than two people
*Have a good quality finish

As part of the 'Va Va Voom!' vehicles topic, the Key Stage One children participated in a vehicles themed music workshop. Teachers from the Gateshead Music Service planned songs and activities all about opposites in music; loud and quiet, fast and slow, high and low, long and short. The children had a fantastic time and all had the opportunity to play some instruments.

The children in Year One and Two performed separate versions of 'The Sleepy Shepherd'. The play told the story of a shepherd who didn't do any work because he was always busy sleeping. One day, he got woke up by the other shepherds snoring. While he was awake, an angel came to tell him about a special baby being born in Bethlehem. He then made a long journey to visit the baby and meet Mary and Joseph.

Joan Lennon, author of The Ferret Princess and Wag and the King, visited our school last Thursday. Throughout the day, Joan conducted workshops with years 3,4 and 5 in the school library. She promoted her new book: The Mucker's Tale, which is due to be published in the new year. It was an amazing event which has encouraged and inspired children in KS2 to read more of her books. Three teams from Wardley competed in a basketball tournament at Heworth. All three teams had a lot of fun and scored some great baskets. One of the teams even went on to beat Roman Road in the final of the tournament and so qualify for the All Gateshead finals.

The children at Wardley Primary School raised a massive £300 for Children in Need. They raised the money by paying 50p to wear non-uniform to school and by taking part in a coin toss event. The children had great fun trying to land 1p and 2p coins on Pudsey's spots in order to win a small prize.

The Children in KS1 were all very excited when a package arrived from our link school in Uganda. Inside the package was: local craft work, pictures of children who go to Kikajjo Junior School and a lovely letter telling us about what life is like for teachers in Uganda.

Now we have to think about what we can send to Uganda to tell them about life in England.
