As part of the 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside' topic, the children in Key Stage One have been designing and building sandcastles in their DT lessons. The children have been testing which types of sand make the best material to build their sandcastles and they have also designed flags to decorate their 'kingdoms'. To complete the topic, the children went to Cullercoats beach in Whitley Bay to compete in a sand castle competition. In small groups, the children built their designs. Many deep moats were dug, shiny shells collected and a variety of turrets built. After much deliberation, Mr Evans and Mr Burfield decided the 'Spooky castle' was the winning entry due to its fantastic decoration and stone patterns.
The winning entry.
