What are Danish schools like?

Over the half term, Mr Malik had the opportunity to visit Denmark, with a group of Gateshead teachers, in order to look at Danish schools and the way in which they educate their young people.
During the week, a number of schools (skole) were visited including nurseries (kindergarten), private schools and schools with a focus on forest learning. The experience was enjoyable, interesting and raised a number of aspects for the staff to talk about.
Some amazing facts to get you started:
- Children can start school at 6.30am and finish at 5.00pm
- They must go outside for up to two hours at a time, in all weathers
- Knives are used when children are learning in the forest
- There is no uniform in Danish schools
- Teachers are called by their first names
