Wardley Twitchers spot Red Kites!

To the celebrate the end of the 'Twitchers' topic, the children got to put all their bird spotting skills, knowledge and understanding into practise through our visit to the Derwent Park and Thornley Woods. The main focus of our visit was to see the Red Kites in their natural habitat. Thankfully, we were not disappointed. The children loved seeing the bird of prey gliding above the trees hunting for it's food.

In the afternoon, the children visited the bird hide in Thornley Woods. We saw many birds including:
*Blue tits
*Chaffinches
*Coal tits
*Bullfinches
*Pheasants
*Woodpigeons
*Robins
*House sparrows
*Wrens

A grey squirrel was also seen feeding upside down on the bird feeders and a large toad.

The children also went on a nature hunt. They used the materials that they had collected to make a bird collage.

The weather was glorious and it added to the perfect day to end the topic. The staff would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came along to help us on the trip. They were fantastic!
