Horrid Henry Christmas Stories

The children in Mr Evans' Year 2 literacy class are big fans of the Horrid Henry's series of books written by Francesca Simon. The children thoroughly enjoy listening to the horrid things Henry gets upto at home and at school. After a visit to Pelaw library, one of children loaned out 'Horrid Henry and the Abominal Snowman.' This winter themed story inspired our own writing. The children took part in a class writing competition to see how could write the best Horrid Henry story with a Christmas theme. After much deliberating, it was Amy Kell's story named 'Horrid Henry's Christmas Pudding' that won. She included many features that you would expect to read in a Francesca Simon story. Amy McCartney was runner up.

School Clubs

This half term has seen many children involved in a wide variety of clubs both at lunchtimes and after school.

The majority of clubs have been organised through the extra work and time put in by staff who feel it is important to provide rich experiences for children beyond the regular curriculum. There are also clubs which are run by outside providers who have skills that our staff do not possess and who can provide specialist activities.

Please click to see the timetable of activities that has been in place.

Hanukah Visit

On the 5th December 2007, Mr Gillipmen visited Year One and Two to tell the story of the Jewish Festival of Hanukah. He brought in a Menorah and explained its importance in the Hanukah story. The children enjoyed hearing about how the Jews battled against the Syrians to claim back the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. The Year One and Two children played a Jewish game called Dreidel, which originated from the time of the Syrian occupation. Jewish parents used it as away of secretly teaching their children about G_d.
