Jose Hofstede comes to visit to Wardley

Tuesday 19th June did not bring a typical Literacy lesson for most KS2 children; instead it provided them with the opportunity to meet another author, this time Dutch Children's author, Jose Hofstede.

Jose has written five books in the Brave Hunter series and is currently touring England. The children were given an insight into the writing and publishing process before being given the opportunity to ask any reading and writing questions they thought she could help them with.

Jose asked the teachers to choose three children from each session who deserved to recieve a personalised signed book from her. They were chosen because of their listening skills and involvement in the session.

Three In A Row!

CIMG0313.JPG
For the third year in a row, Wardley have been crowned the Year 5/6 Gateshead Schools ASDA Kwik Cricket champions. It is a wonderful achievement for the team, and the pupils and staff at Wardley are all extremely proud of the cricketers.

The festival was held at our local club, Felling. Wardley took both an 'A' and a 'B' team. The 'B' team performed admirably winning 3 out of the 4 matches. Unfortunately, this was not quite enough to lead them through to the semi-finals. The 'A' team won their group and the semi-final quite comfortably, with four comprehensive victories. The final was a tight affair but excellent bowling from the whole team saw the Wardley ‘A’ side home.

Mr Evans was delighted with the victory as it was a just reward for the children’s hard work in training throughout the cold, wet winter months in preparation for the tournament. The next stage of the competition is the regional finals, which will be held at the test match arena, The Riverside at Chester Le Street.
