On Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th October, Year 6 children presented their Healthy Eating Topic to parents. The children took on the role of rather bossy teachers to guide their parents through a series of learning experiences linked to healthy eating.

Parents took part in 4 activities designed to extend their knowledge of healthy eating and to give them a flavour of the tasks their children completed in school.
The morning began with a group of children introducing the presentation, suggesting healthy alternatives to food items that were found in some of the children’s packed lunches.
Under the guidance of their children, parents then took part in the following activities:
• Making a persuasive poster ( ICT)
• Changing recipe quantities using ratio and proportion (Numeracy)
• Writing a conclusion for a balanced argument (Literacy)
• Used a food pyramid to label their favourite meal.
Here are some examples of the children's work:
WALT...promote a healthy lifestyle

WALT...use a mind-map to plan a balanced argument

WALT...present information about the components of a balanced diet

WALT...write a balanced argument

The presentation was concluded with a thoroughly enjoyable and eye-opening game of ‘Who wants to be a healthier person?’ Unfortunately, Chris Tarrant was unable to attend due to a double booking and had to be replaced at the last minute by Paige Anderson and Karl McInnes!
