Shooting Hoops At Gateshead

Watch this one fly in.jpg

After waltzing through the qualifying tournament, Wardley Basketball team put on another impressive display in the regional finals. The team managed to win all but one of their group games playing some magnificent basketball on the way. Unfortunately some lucky baskets and missed opportunities meant that we finished second in the league and were unable to progress to the final. Everyone played extremely well and the behaviour and attitude of the children were a credit to the school. Jakk even found some time to relax and admire the university netball team. He assures me that he was picking up passing tips!

Parents Presented with Healthy Eating Help

On Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th October, Year 6 children presented their Healthy Eating Topic to parents. The children took on the role of rather bossy teachers to guide their parents through a series of learning experiences linked to healthy eating.

Parents took part in 4 activities designed to extend their knowledge of healthy eating and to give them a flavour of the tasks their children completed in school.

The morning began with a group of children introducing the presentation, suggesting healthy alternatives to food items that were found in some of the children’s packed lunches.

Under the guidance of their children, parents then took part in the following activities:

• Making a persuasive poster ( ICT)
• Changing recipe quantities using ratio and proportion (Numeracy)
• Writing a conclusion for a balanced argument (Literacy)
• Used a food pyramid to label their favourite meal.

Here are some examples of the children's work:

The presentation was concluded with a thoroughly enjoyable and eye-opening game of ‘Who wants to be a healthier person?’ Unfortunately, Chris Tarrant was unable to attend due to a double booking and had to be replaced at the last minute by Paige Anderson and Karl McInnes!

SATs Results 2007

The results for 2007 showed that the children at Wardley are making significant progress from starting with us in nursery, through their learning journey, to the end of KS2.

The good results that we get are due to the positive relationships between, children, parents and school and the hardwork and dedication from all.

What’s going on this half term?

There are a wide variety of activities on offer all year round, in addition to the regular curriculum. As a staff, we have tried to ensure that there are activities for children throughout KS1 and KS2. Although not all children can be involved all of the time, every child who wishes to be part of a club will hopefully have that opportunity during the year.

To see what activities are on offer please download the attached file.

Timetabled Clubs

The value of extra-curricular activities is huge, with children being given the chance to work with new friends and different teachers. During the clubs, children acquire new knowledge and develop new skills as well as having a different context in which to apply what they have learned during the normal school timetable.

All those children who show the dedication required for taking part in a club will receive a certificate at the end of the programme, which we hope they will keep as a record of how they are committed to their own education beyond the usual school day.

As a school, we wish to provide the highest possible standards of education and, in order to support that, we try to provide a wide variety of activities within, and in addition to, the normal curriculum. However, please remember that these clubs cannot happen without the hard work and dedication of our staff who voluntarily organise and lead clubs, in addition to their normal responsibilities.

Year 3/4 went to Segedunum to enrich their historical understanding of the Roman Period as well as develop ideas for historical stories. The children completed activities around the site to enable them to retain information that would be useful back in school.
