Man of the Match: Jakk Smith

The Year 5/6 football team made an excellent start to the new league season. Despite playing some brilliant passing football, the team found themselves 3-2 down at half-time. After some words of encouragement from Mr Scott and Mr Evans, the team performed magnificently to win comfortably 5-3. It was a heroic team effort. The exceptional performance of the day was by Jakk Smith, who scored a fabulous hat-trick. This wonderful exhibition of finishing has led Jakk to be invited to train with the Felling Schools team. Congratulations to the team and particularly Jakk. Lets hope this is the start of an extremely successful season.

Foundation Statements

Wardley Primary School seeks to provide the highest possible standards of teaching and learning within an ethos that nurtures personal and academic development.

Being Healthy

Pupils have a very good understanding how to live a healthy lifestyle. They are involved in a range of activities to support physical, mental and emotional well-being both in the curriculum and beyond. During school, pupils engage in eating healthily, drinking water regularly and taking part in at least 2 hours of PE and sport a week.

Staying Safe
The ethos of the school ensures that children feel safe and secure. Positive relationships allow pupils who feel threatened, to confide in staff who can then give appropriate support based on clear and effective systems. Children have a developed capacity to assess risks and respond sensibly to ensure that they and others are safe from harm.

Enjoyment
Children love coming to school. There are high levels of attendance and children are punctual. Children participate in all aspects of school with enthusiasm and when doing so co-operate with others extremely well. In school and when representing the school outside, pupils’ attitudes and behaviour are exemplary.

Achievement
Pupils achieve high standards in relation to their starting points. All learners, including those with learning difficulties, make good progress and some make very good progress.

Making a Positive Contribution

Children understand how they can make a positive contribution to a range of communities. Children have opportunities to effect the development of their school and are able to express their views and then make suggestions about how improvements can be made. They understand how their behaviour affects others and as a result behave with care and consideration.

Achieve Economic Well-being

Children make impressive progress in the basic skills of literacy, numeracy and ICT. The ethos of the school promotes the development of creative thinking and self-confidence to empower children to take initiative and work constructively with others.

The Curriculum
The curriculum clearly and effectively supports pupils’ personal and academic development. It is designed to build upon previous learning while engaging pupils in new learning experiences within and beyond the classroom setting. All learners are included in the curriculum and supported by appropriate means in order to have equal access.

Teaching and Learning
Teaching is child-centred and consistently of a high quality. Teaching engages and challenges pupils whilst, through careful use of effective teaching methods and resources, ensuring that all learners succeed and make good progress. Pupils are hungry to learn. They work well independently and collaboratively in order to acquire and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding.

Leadership and Management
Leadership and management are clearly focused on raising standards and promoting learners’ personal development and well-being. A clear vision is created and shared with all stakeholders and is the driving force for all. Self-evaluation is used effectively, by leadership and management, to form a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and areas of development from which successful improvements are made.
