Responsible Internet Use: Pupils

As part of the National Curriculum and the development of ICT skills, programmes of study for key stage two pupils will sometimes involve access to the internet. This may be for purposes such as exchanging emails with partner schools and researching information from museums, libraries, news providers and suitable web sites.

In order to address concerns about pupils accessing unsuitable material, the Local Education Authority have obtained an internet provider who operates a filtered system. In addition, all screens are in view and access is supervised.

Pupils will operate under the following guidelines:

Pupil Rules for Responsible Internet Use

• I will only access computers with my class login and password;
• I will not access other people's files;
• I will only use the computers for schoolwork and homework;
• I will not bring in floppy disks or CD-ROMS from outside of school unless I have been given permission;
• I will not access the Internet unless I have been given permission to do so:
• I will only E- mail people I know, or those of whom my teacher has approved;
• The messages I send will be polite and responsible;
• I will not give my home address or telephone number, or arrange to meet someone, unless my parent, carer or teacher has given permission;
• I will report any unpleasant materials that appear on my screen. I understand that this report will be confidential and will help protect others and myself;
• I understand that the school may check my computer files and may monitor the Internet sites I visit.
