Pizza Perfection

Members of Wardley Writers Club have been involved in writing descriptions of our favourite pizza. Mr Malik, the club organiser, decided that he would judge the entries and the one which gave the most effective description would be purchased and eaten in our last session before half term.

The winning entry was by Jack Tweddell whose description can be read below.

It was a very difficult decision because of the high quality of the writing, all of which can be read by clicking on the links. Our advice is to read these on a full stomach so not to be tempted to dial the take away!

Wardley Celebrate Cricketing Victory!

CIMG5406.JPG
The Year 5/6 cricket team finished top of their league at the ASDA Kwik Cricket Festival at Felling Cricket Club. The children played four games and won each match comfortably. We ran out of time to play the winners of the other league to see who would represent Gateshead in the Kwik Cricket Finals. Unfortunately, the other team, Lingey House, had scored a greater number of runs over their four matches, therefore they got through to the finals. Mr Evans was delighted with the performace of the children, especially that of the three female members of the team, whose cricketing skills have significantly improved over the year. A teacher from Bede School commented on the very sporting nature of the Wardley team, She was really impressed with how the children encouraged each other and also the other teams that they played.

School Council attend the Gateshead Junior Community Network Conference

Wardley Primary School Council have recently become part of the Gateshead Junior Community Network and, along with several other Gateshead schools, attended the conference at The Swallow Hotel last week.

The schools were asked to deliver a three minute presentation on something that they were proud to have achieved this year. We delivered ours based on our Charity work and in particular, the School Council wanted to focus on the success of Comic Relief Day 2009.

The children really enjoyed delivering the presentation- they showed a powerpoint, sang, danced and even wore their pyjamas and the best part- they even got to use a microphone!

Wardley School Council were very proud to come 2nd place for our presentation and were even more pleased with their prize- a big bag of sweets to share!

School Council learn about Community Cohesion

Recently the School Council have joined the Gateshead Junior Community Network. This involves Wardley Primary working in partnership with several other Gateshead schools to promote Community Cohesion.

The School Council were very lucky to have Julie and Annie come into school to help them to learn about what community cohesion is and what it means in terms of the local area in Wardley and in Gateshead. They did some discussion work based around belonging to various groups both inside and outside of school and the advantages and disadvantages of being in a group. The council then plotted on a map of the local area where they belong in their different groups and they were surprised to see how vast an area the different groups they belong to covered!

The School Council really enjoyed the session and learned a lot about their local community. They were delighted to receive free Gateshead Community Network mugs, chocolate and pens as a reward for their hard work at the end!

Fun Easter Crafts!

Every Thursday children from Key Stage 1 and 2 have been meeting to make fantastic Easter themed crafts to take home.

From colouring to sewing, each of the crafts has been very popular and often quite challenging! The children had the option to take their items home each week or save them until Easter. Lots of the children are planning to use their items as gifts for their families as an alternative to chocolate eggs.

We have looked at all aspects of the Spring season not just Easter and have included pictures of tulips, daffodils, lambs and chicks. Mrs Nelson was extremely impressed to see the children help each other if they found something difficult. The last project will be to make an Easter basket which Mrs Nelson has promised to fill with goodies for everyone who makes it to the end of the 6 week club.

The club will be displaying their crafts in the Key Stage 2 hall for anyone who would like to see. Thank you to Mrs Howe who very kindly donated some lovely Easter card kits!

CIMG4924.JPG

Thank you to everyone who came to school in their own clothes instead of their uniform and donated money to the Congo appeal. Altogether the school raised a fantastic £250.00 and this has been sent to the appeal to help families who are a lot worse off than we are!

The School Council would like to say Merry Christmas and hope you have a Happy New Year too. Thank you again for your kindness.
